This is a list of FAQs we've received from bands and visitors to The Music Tap along with some other information that will hopefully address any concerns and also explain the who, what, where and why regarding The Music Tap.

Question: How do I know you this isn't a scam?

Answer: We're asked this question a few different (less direct) ways, and with all the scams on the web we understand your concerns, but we have been operating nonprofit for six years with nothing but accolades from the artists listed with us and the visitors who send in comments. If we were running a scam, I'm pretty sure we would be gone by now. You'll just have to have faith.

Question: Why don't you make the music available "stream only" and use technologies that prevent people from actually being able download copies of the songs?

Answer: This is one of the most important questions we receive and there are several reasons...

  • Were nonprofit and the technologies required to be truly stream only are either expensive or time consuming. We can't afford either, so in order not to charge the artists or the visitors to cover expenses, we simply can't do it at this time. We're looking into an automated file converion that would change all this, but for now it's MP3 only.
  • We also think the sound quality of "true" stream only" music is still very poor and we want potential investors or record labels to hear the bands properly.
  • We relish the fact that The Music Tap has managed to remain ad-free since its inception.
  • It's the very reason many visitors come to our site, so they can listen and share noncommercial music with their friends off-line.

Question: What's in it for you? Why do you bother then?

Answer: This is by far the most important question we receive and again there are a few reasons but ultimately the answer is NOTHING, we do it out of goodwill.

  • It's good Karma for one thing and...
  • Everyone that donates their time and talents to this site are musicians and have "been there, done that" when it comes to trying to get noticed. This is our contribution to the artists that are trying to get started.
  • We won't lie to you, we're not opposed to finding a way to make the site profitable as long as we could continue to help the artists and keep it free for both the artists and visitors. That may never happen and that's OK, we have every intention of carrying on, whether we make money or not.

Question: Who is involved with operations? Who owns The Music Tap?

Answer: The following participants...

  • Rick P. - Creator, owner, developer.
  • Russell K. - Developer and art director.
  • Mary M. - Editor and assistant art director.

Question: Where is The Music Tap? Do you plan to start putting live shows with the Music Tap artists?

Answer: The Music Tap is based in Los Angeles, Ca. and there are no immediate plans to sponsor live shows but it is under consideration.
